Midweek Update | Vol. 2016, Issue 24

June 29, 2016

Summer is here! This means a change from our winter routines and an opportunity to get out and do some seasonal things.

With school out, both parents and children are looking forward to those fun days of summer. While this is a great time of the year to kick back and enjoy the beautiful weather, Sheila Wray Gregoire, in her book, To Love, Honor and Vacuum, offers some good advice to parents with kids.

"Summer days" she says, "are a great time to get out a chore sheet, give kids an opportunity to lend a helping hand and let them experience the satisfaction of a job well done." She talks about strategies to encourage kids to do chores, including tying the duties to allowances. "It's important" she says, "to demonstrate the value of earning money. If you buy them that chocolate bar or purchase that pair of designer jeans every time they ask, there's no incentive for your offspring to make their own dough." Very true.

For our youth, here are some wise words from Proverbs 10:5, "A wise youth harvests in the summer, but one who sleeps during harvest is a disgrace." Every 24 hours brings with it opportunities to grow, serve and be productive. See time as God's gift and seize the opportunity to live diligently for Him.

NB: This is our last Midweek update until the Fall. Thanks to our readership over the last 12 months.

As we break for the summer my prayer is that you will have a great, safe and enjoyable summer.

With every blessing...
